Without a doubt, a masterpiece of jazz. And as jazz is the most democratic of all forms of music, the performances always have something unpredictable, random. So when life brings together a bunch of talents like this, and when it's a blessed day, and when everything works together, then something like this Stingaree Blues recording happens. Wonderful!

At 1:35 and following, someone is amazingly comfortable on soprano saxophone. Most doublers in the 20s struggled at it.

I prefer the take with the distinct ending rather than slight fade. I think that's the re-released take rather than the original.

Nobody remembers Ed Allen nowadays. Some even confound him with RED Allen. But he was a superb trumpeter, as can be heard on many records. Nonetheless, Bailey's brillant solo is the show stopper.

It's difficult for me to imagine how he could write such incredible music; like that other American composer Copeland, it gets into your head and stays there forever.

Sam Lewis and Joseph Young took credit for writing the lyrics in 1925 but Jack Mahoney wrote these words in 1914: "Five foot two, eyes of blue, But oh! what those five foot could do, Has anybody seen my girl? Has anybody seen my girl? Sounds to me like he was ripped off by Lewis & Young. Also the music was probably written by Percy Wenrich but 'borrowed' by Ray Henderson.😮
